Allergy Awareness Month at YumEarth
May is Allergy Awareness Month. With 32 million people in our country impacted, it’s easy to see why this conversation is so important. Throughout the month, we’ll be sharing allergy friendly recipes, our favorite allergy friendly brands, facts and stats, exciting giveaways, and most importantly organizations supporting allergy awareness.
For the month of May, we are donating a percentage of our website sales to The Elijah-Alavi Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on ensuring that all infants and children with severe food allergies and asthma have safe spaces to learn and socialize in daycare centers and schools. Founder, Thomas Silvera and his wife, Dina, lost their 3-year-old son to anaphylaxis triggered by a dairy allergy at his preschool in 2017, despite the school having documentation of his life-threatening allergies. The Foundation provides the right accredited training for school professionals and those in the childcare setting. Thomas and Dina began working to enact “Elijah’s Law” in every state, which requires all child care programs to follow state food allergy guidelines to prevent, recognize and respond to life-threatening anaphylactic reactions.
“As a parent of two boys with food allergies, one son in my heart and my other son who daily must continue to avoid his allergens, we rely on products like YumEarth because they're safe but more importantly a company that believes in putting a smile on the face of so many children because they care and believe in creating awareness around food allergies.” Thomas Silvera, Co-Founder/CEO, Elijah-Alavi Foundation & Food Allergy Parent.
