Teal Pumpkin Project

Teal Pumpkin Project

The Teal Pumpkin project originated in 2012 when Becky Basalone came up with the idea to paint a pumpkin teal and place it on the porch to let children with food allergies know they would have a safe treat at that home. Now, families across the world participate in the Teal Pumpkin Project in order to create a safe and inclusive experience for all trick-or-treaters.

Food allergies are life-altering, and sometimes life-threatening for children and adults. What many do not realize is that this is a growing public health issue among children in the United States. One out of every 13 children has a food allergy, which equates to two children in each classroom.

FARE (Food Allergy Research & Education) is helping families enjoy a safer Halloween with a searchable teal pumpkin map, tips and resources. Find an allergy-friendly home near you and participate in the Teal Pumpkin Project. Put your house on the map here.

If you see a teal pumpkin on someone’s doorstep (or sign of a teal pumpkin), it means there are safe, non-food treats available, such as glow sticks or small toys.

YumEarth is proud to make allergy-friendly and tasty treats so that everyone can be included. Our candies range from lollipops to gummy bears and more. Shop our treats online here or find a store near you here.
